Two dozen Air Force Reserve senior noncommissioned officers completed a 340th Flying Training Group-hosted Air Force Reserve Command senior NCO leadership course held here Sept. 22-23.

Conducted by Chief Master Sgt. Martha Roy, 908th Force Support Squadron, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., and Master Sgt. Erin Bush, 446th Aeromedical Staging Squadron, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., the two-day information-packed course exposed participants to concepts and skills critical to leadership development.

“The 340th is all about developing great leaders and great Airmen,” 340th FTG Commander Col. Roger Suro said during opening remarks. “Great leaders take care of their Airmen and great Airmen take care of the mission, and that is what this course is about.”

Course modules included education and learning activities on topics such as whole-brain thinking, teamwork and coaching, creativity, communication, and negotiation and conflict resolution.

“Senior NCOs are critical to developing strong future leaders, so providing them with this array of tools helps them care for and develop great citizen Airmen,” the commander said.

The course helps participants recognize their own leadership styles and strengths, and shows them how to use their strengths to encourage, develop and motivate Airmen.

Attendees also benefitted from peer development and benchmarking opportunities.

“The course was a welcome opportunity to network with my fellow senior NCOs, and learn what enhancements I can make to become a more effective supervisor and wingman,” said Master Sgt. Gavin Jordan, NCO in charge of 340th FTG force management.
