JOINT-BASE SAN ANTONIO-Randolph, Texas – Resolutions gleaned in a recent continuous process improvement event held here on Sept. 27, will help the Air Force retain more career enlisted aviator training slots.

The goal of the event was to determine the best way to prevent annual loss of 25 percent of class dates.

Outbrief team leads recommended four countermeasures to Chief Master Sgt. David Jones, who stood in for the improvement process champion, Maj. Gen. Kenneth Lewis AFRC/A3. Proposals included the following:

-Maintain the status quo - minor changes to existing process

-Centralize operations at the respective units

-Centralize operations at Air Force Reserve Command

-Create a hybrid of the other solutions

The improvement champion determined that establishing operations at a unit - in this case, the 340th FTG - would be the most efficient construct. Within this configuration, administrative control would be located at 340th FTG headquarters, with the group facilitating  work order processing, pay, and training and medical appointment scheduling. Classes and flight physicals would be completed at JBSA-Lackland.

“This alignment will make San Antonio the one-stop shop for gaining and retaining enlisted aviators,” said Teresa Davies, group continuous process improvement manager.

CPI team members will monitor the process to identify any fine-tuning opportunities and to ensure improvements stay on track.
