Our mission is to train and provide a reserve of experienced instructors to augment the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) instructor cadre. We do this by hiring quality military aviators who meet the following requirements

APPLICATION QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet qualifications specified on the U.S. Air Force Formal Schools Education & Training Course Announcements (ETCA) Web site in addition to the following:

T-1 Instructor Pilot

-- Previous Aircraft Commander status in any military aircraft.
-- For a T-1 Instructor Pilot Job - Applicants must have tanker, airlift, bomber, or previous AETC experience as a T-1 IP.

T-6 Instructor Pilot

-- Previous Aircraft Commander status in any military aircraft.
-- Applicants must have MWS or previous AETC experience as a T-6 IP.

T-38C Instructor Pilot

-- Aircraft Commander status from all other aircraft.
-- 350 hours and mission qualified status in fighter aircraft.
-- At least 80 percent of Air Force Reserve Command IPs supporting any one host wing will have been mission-qualified fighter pilots. Other IPs (20 percent maximum) must have either bomber aircraft commander experience, aircraft commander MWS and 500 hours AETC T/AT-38 IP experience, or 1000 hours AETC T/AT-38 IP experience

AT-38 Instructor Pilot

-- Experience in a fighter within the last five years, four-ship flight lead
-- 500 hours in fighter aircraft or 1000 FP/MP/IP hours total with 300 hours in fighters.
-- No additional requirements beyond ETCA.

Duty Requirements

Reserve instructors must satisfy all the same continuation training, student sortie, and check ride requirements as active duty instructors. To accomplish these requirements will take an average of 6-8 duty days per month.


Steps to Become a Reserve Instructor Pilot

1. Review qualifications to see if you are eligible.
2. Review the duty requirements to ensure you can meet the duty expectations.
3. Download the application package.
4. Contact the unit you wish to join with any questions.
5. Fill out the application forms & send a copy to each of the units to which you are applying.
6. Wait for results of selection board.
7. If selected as a candidate, the unit will contact you to schedule an interview.
8. Interview.
9. If selected, coordinate with your in-service recruiter and gaining unit for processing and to schedule local training or a PIT date.

Note: Annotate all squadron(s) in which you are interested and forward a separate copy of the application package for each of those units to the 340th Flying Training Group Military Personnel Flight (340 FTG/MPS Workflow). The MPF will forward the application package(s) as required.
