Danna assumes command of 96th Flying Training Squadron

JOINT-BASE SAN ANTONIO-Randolph, Texas – Lt. Col. Vincent Danna assumed command of the 96th Flying Training Squadron at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, on Dec. 6 during ceremonies officiated by Col. Allen Duckworth, 340th Flying Training Group commander.

 

Prior to accepting command, Danna was the squadron director of operations.

 

A 1999 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, he transferred to the Air Force Reserve in 2007. A command pilot with more than 4,000 hours in the T-37, C-130E, EC-130H and T-1A, the colonel has served as an aircraft commander and instructor pilot in the EC-130H Compass Call, leading numerous missions in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. His medals and decorations include two Meritorious Service Medals, five Aerial Achievement Medals, two Air Force Commendation Medals and the Air Force Achievement Medal.

 

Relinquishing command was Lt. Col. Steven “Keith” Shearin, who assumed command in May 2017, and is working on plans for his upcoming retirement.

 

The 96th FTS is one of seven squadrons under the 340th FTG; one of six 340th flying training squadrons which combined support Air Education and Training Command specialized undergraduate pilot training, joint primary pilot training, pilot instructor training, introduction to fighter fundamentals, Euro-NATO joint jet pilot training, and the United States Air Force Academy's airmanship programs.
