JOINT-BASE SAN ANTONIO-Randolph, Texas – During the semi-annual commanders’ summit held in Fredericksburg, Texas, March 4-7, 340th Flying Training Group and subordinate squadron senior leaders gathered to discuss common concerns, hear updates from headquarters staff on process improvements and logistics and administrative developments, and outline plans for continuing successes.

Col. Allen Duckworth, group commander, opened the summit with a look at the complex Total Force Integration - or TFI - environment, and the significant impact Reserve TFI members have on the pilot training and enlisted basic military training missions.

Headquarters staff provided senior leaders with information on the budget, legal restrictions and requirements, personnel and awards programs, and deployments and planning strategies. Former 340th Director of Operations Col. Michael Vanzo, now at 22nd Air Force headquarters, Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Ga., provided a promotion board overview.

Lt. Col. Sara Linck and Maj. Teresa Davies, continuous process improvement team, reviewed progress toward achieving goals and objectives established during the August 2018 strategic alignment event, and Senior Master Sgt. Samuel Caballero, first sergeant, facilitated a relationship building exercise, and updated attendees on the Key Spouse Program.

The summit concluded March 7 with a robust discussion among leaders on what is and is not working and how to overcome productivity barriers.

Recurring commander summits provide group and squadron leaders with opportunities to address common concerns, celebrate and benchmark successes, and identify additional improvement opportunities. The next summit is slated for early fall.
