Armed Forces Day: honoring America’s service members Published May 15, 2019 340th Flying Training Group Public Affairs JOINT-BASE SAN ANTONIO-Randolph, Texas – In the daily hustle and bustle of life, some special observances may seem to take us by surprise, like Armed Forces Day. If that’s the case for you this year, mark your calendar now for Saturday, May 18, 2019 (and, while you’re at it, for Saturday, May 16, 2020 as well). Armed Forces Day, established Aug. 31, 1949 and celebrated annually on the third Saturday in May, was established to honor the extraordinary men and women from every branch of the armed forces - Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard - for their service, sacrifice and commitment to America’s freedom. Ready to deploy at all times and prepared to put their lives on the line, American service members endure much to safeguard their fellow Americans’ freedom and security. Are you an American service member? Wherever you are, whatever your branch of service, this Armed Forces Day and every day, the men and women of the 340th Flying Training Group honor you and thank you for your service.
