JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-Randolph, Texas – Anthoney Smith, financial management travel lead, and Master Sgt. Julia Tovar, Command Section, Administrative Support non-commissioned officer in charge, have been chosen as the November and December 2019, 340th Flying Training Group, “On-the-Spot” award winners by Col. Allen Duckworth, group commander.
The commander implemented the award to provide immediate and visible recognition for the contributions of exceptional civilian and enlisted headquarters members as those contributions occur. Nominations are submitted through the group Senior Enlisted Council. In recognition of their excellent performance, award winners are granted the commander’s parking spot for a week.
Smith, the November winner -- the only one in the travel pay section for the last three years -- was cited for working diligently to ensure travel vouchers were done properly so group members received expedient voucher pay outs. Further, the council said Smith was a wealth of knowledge and he was always willing to help with pay and travel vouchers throughout the group.
Tovar was lauded for going the extra mile by coming in on the weekend to declutter the supply room. Her efforts saved the group money by uncovering hidden office resources. She is also in the process of revamping the group’s records management file plans. Finally, the council said Tovar was nominated because she is a great worker and her infectious cheerful disposition brightens everyone’s day.
