JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-Randolph, Texas – Tech. Sgt. Janette Lopez, 340th Flying Training Group Undergraduate Flying Training program, has been named the group's first 2021 On the Spot Award winner.
Candidates are nominated by the senior noncommissioned officer council for the monthly award, which is presented by Col. Michael Vanzo, group commander. The award promotes productivity and provides immediate, visible recognition for exceptional contributions to the group and mission, as they occur.
Officially assigned to the group in October, Lopez has supported the UFT mission for over a year.
Lopez, lauded by UFT leaders as a high-energy mission contributor, is responsible for UFT force management functions. In 2020, she gained 116 students and facilitated graduation for 89 others (who would go on to support 26 different Reserve unit commanders). The personnel expert supported 300-plus students from various military components, including regular Air Force, Air National Guard, Navy, Marine Corps and Army students.
Consistent positive student feedback are a testament to her exceptional customer service and ability to diffuse stressful situations, as well as her superior ability to educate students on critical career processes and programs, including promotions, professional development, personnel systems and records management.
"Her professionalism and expert program oversight allow swift student transitions and ensure a good first impression into the AF Reserve for students and their families," said Lt. Col. Michael McMillan, UFT program director.
In appreciation for exceptional performance, every On the Spot Award winner is provided the commander's parking space for the week of their choice.
