Soldiers from the 10th Field Hospital, or “Mountain Medics,” mobilized from Fort Carson, Colorado for Task Force McCoy, conducted a mass vaccination of Afghan evacuees at Fort McCoy on September 16-22. The Task Force McCoy medical team was able to vaccinate up to 2500 people per day, according to Col. Mathew Fandre, the team surgeon and commanding officer. Col. Fandre and Senior Enlisted Advisor, Master Sgt. Mathew Johnson, explain the purpose of the mass vaccination, and the dedication to care by the team that conducted it. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for up to 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan. (U.S. Army video by Sgt. 1st Class John Freese, Task Force McCoy Public Affairs Office)
