Medium shot; Admiral Foggo responds to question: How has your experience of
the exercise been so far?
Foggo: “Absolutely superb. Like I said, my first day here was earlier last week I
got here on Thursday and I started at the Joint Logistics Support Group, that was
done for a reason. They’re the unsung heroes that brought everybody here and
made sure we had what we needed to move out in the field and establish base
camps like this. So logistics is really the sixth domain of warfare and it was a
major victory to make that happen on day one, and today is the last day of RSOM.
It’s the last day of receipt of forces and now we’re into the fun part where were
actually establishing our footprint in the field and getting into some real fighting
parts of the exercise.”

Medium shot; Admiral Foggo responds to question: Have there been any
standout moments so far?
Foggo: “I think everyday I get out in the field and you can hear the artillery in the
background because were right next to a proven ground here in Norway where
were able to test our guns, shoot our guns and train our troops. And for me this
is the defining moment of the exercise to get out and meet the multinationals of
the 29 nations of NATO, the 2 partner countries, and talk to them. You know, and
I’ll be honest with you, I have not seen an unenthusiastic person yet, everybody’s
energetic, everybody’s smiling, everybody’s happy to be here because this is
what we joined up to do.”

Medium shot; Admiral Foggo responds to question: What kind of opportunity
does an exercise of this scale and in this type of terrain give NATO?
Foggo: “Well as I told the General earlier this morning, when I was back in the
states a few weeks ago and I talked at a Pentagon press conference and with
other groups in DC about Trident Juncture. There were a lot of people that asked
me ‘why in the world would you do that in Norway in October and November, it’s
really cold and nasty there.’ And I said that’s exactly why were doing it, because
not only are the conditions in the field arduous, the scenario is very, very
difficult. We have arrived after sovereignty of one of our NATO allies has been
violated and we now have to push that adversary out but were gonna do it in
cold weather, arduous conditions and were gonna bring people together that
haven’t had this opportunity much throughout their careers. Let me just take the
United States Marine Corps for example, they have cold weather schools in the
United States but there is no substitute for this real laboratory here in Norway. A
lot of these young Marines haven’t seen this environment before. A lot of senior
Marines that are with them as their supervisor, senior enlisted and their officers
have had their boots in the sand in some place like Iraq or Afghanistan. This
terrain is different, its and archipelago, we come from the sea, we land, we move
inland. The ground is hard, the ground is green, the ground is wet, the ground is
cold and there’s going to be some snow coming next week. So these are tough
conditions, but we’re made to fight tough and we’re gonna do it, and we’re gonna
do it well, and we’re gonna win.”
