  • Freedom Wing Command Team Assists in Fighting Global Pandemic

    On Palm Sunday, more than 120 Reserve Citizen Airmen from around the nation, arrived at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., to fight the coronavirus outbreak in New York City. They are doctors, nurses, respiratory technicians and support functions. Today, the medical personnel will be working out of three local hospitals in New York City to assist in the fight against COVID-19. Col. Thomas O. Pemberton, 514th Air Mobility Wing commander, says this is a win-win for all. The communities are getting much needed help and the reservists are receiving valuable hands-on training of their clinical skills.

    In an update to the fight against Coronavirus, the Defense Department directed all individuals on DoD property, to the extent practical, wear cloth face coverings when they cannot maintain six feet of social distancing in public areas or work centers. In many facets around a flying training wing, six feet of physical distance isn’t practical, so cloth face coverings are a needed tool to fight the virus and flatten the curve.

    To the extent practical, without significantly impacting mission, all individuals on Department of the Air Force property, installations and facilities are required to wear cloth face coverings when they cannot maintain six feet of physical distance in public areas or work centers.
  • COVID-19 test results may take longer

    Due to the influx of COVID-19 tests being run, results are taking longer than originally anticipated. While most results are returning within 7-8 business days, some are taking up to 10 business days. Please be assured that tests are being processed, and you will be called as soon as the test result is received, whether positive or negative.

    In line with Secretary of Defense and Air Force guidance, Air Education and Training Command has directed, to the greatest extent practical, all individuals on AETC installations to wear cloth face coverings when they cannot maintain six feet of social distancing in public areas or work centers.

    Within 48 hours of notification, the Air Force Reserve mobilized more than 120 medical personnel across the nation to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., to help with the fight against COVID-19 in New York City.

  • President signs Executive Order calling up Air Force Reserve medics, other specialties

    On March 27, the President signed an Executive Order authorizing mobilization of the Reserve Component in response to COVID-19 operations.  For the Air Force Reserve, personnel already serving in the Selected Reserve and Participating Individual Ready Reserve, as well as those assigned to the Individual Ready Reserve, may be asked to volunteer to activate in support of COVID-19 response.  If taskings exceed the volunteer pool, mobilization of the IRR to active status is now authorized to ensure mission accomplishment.
